5 MOST INTERESTING AMUSEMENT PARKS IN JAPAN

Japan has many characteristic symbols. One could, for example, refer to the country as the Land of the Rising Sun, The Home of Samurai, The Homeland of the Geisha, or an Island of Volcanoes. Less known, however, is the fact that Japan is also home to countless amusement parks. Japanese amusement parks constantly break records in regard to the number of visitors, but also the altitude, speed and acceleration of their rides. Having access to the most advanced technologies available allows the Japanese to create the most modern rollercoasters in the world.

Tokyo Disneyland

A trip to Disneyland is a dream come true for almost every child in the world, but also many adults. No wonder - it is an amusement park straight out of a fairy tale, after all. One of the world’s 5 Disneyland Parks is located in the capital city of Japan - Tokyo. The Park contains 7 different theme zones, including the only ocean-themed zone in existence - the Tokyo DisneySea Park(東京ディズニーシー). Various carousels, water slides, swings and even heroes of the most popular fairy tales provide visitors with excitement and unforgettable discoveries. When standing in a queue to get some Japanese delicacies at the Tokyo Disneyland, visitors can meet characters like Donald Duck, Scooby Doo, or Mickey Mouse. In addition, they can also enter the water world of Nemo or the Little Mermaid. Walking around the Park in the company of jellyfish and other aquatic really makes one feel like in a fairy tale.

Fuji-Q Highland

The Fuji-Q Highland(富士急ハイランド) is yet another wonderful Japanese attraction. Its most characteristic elements are the breath-taking scenery of the highest peak in Japan, Mount Fuji, as well as numerous Guinness records that it holds. The offer of Fuji-Q includes some of the highest and longest roller coasters in the world. These rides are bound to provide a lot of excitement and a rush of adrenaline.

A trip to Fuji-Q Highland is a good choice for the most adventure-hungry among us. The Park includes rides that reach speeds exceeding 170 km/h. What's more, the Park is famous for the steepest ride in the world - the Takabisha (高飛車) with a drop angle of 121°. The Dodonpa, on the other hand, is a rollercoaster which currently holds the fastest acceleration record and can reach 180 km/h in just 1.56 seconds. The Park also includes the Eejanaika - 4D hypercoaster which can drive upside down and has movable seats which pivot back and forward and rotate 360°.

Universal Studio in Osaka

The Japanese attempt to step into the world of Hollywood - the Osaka Universal Studio (ユニバーサルスタジオジャパン), is a place where visitors can see 10 different theme zones from iconic American movies. It is no longer necessary to visit the USA to see the famous Jurassic Park or the popular landmarks of San Francisco or New York. Visitors to the Park can also get the real Harry Potter experience at the Hogwarts School of Magic and see for themselves what the Chamber of Secrets is truly hiding. It is hard not to notice the Park’s rollercoasters, carousels and actual movie characters walking along the promenade.

Hanayashiki - the oldest amusement park in Japan

The primary theme of the Hanayashiki(花やしき) Park used to be flowers. With time, more and more attractions were added. However, the thing that made this Park truly popular was the birth of tiger quintuplets. This is a very rare phenomenon indeed. In addition, in 1931, the first Japanese lion was also born at Hanayashiki. Today, at this 166-year-old park, visitors can ride a roller coaster and various carousels, shoot up in a Space Shot capsule and taste original Japanese delicacies.

Yomiuriland - the largest amusement park in Tokyo

Yomiuriland(読売ランド) is truly an amusement park made to measure. Both adult visitors and children are bound to have an exciting, adrenaline-filled adventure and numerous unforgettable experiences. This is due to the fact that the Park includes 44 different attractions, and as such, everyone will surely find something suitable for themselves. Thrill-seekers can ride the Bandit rollercoaster, with speeds up to 110 km/h or use a 22-metre-tall bungee. Family- and elderly-friendly options include a Ferris wheel with a view of Mount Fuji or the WAI exotic water pool complex.

Yomiuriland is also known for its extraordinary illumination. Between October and April, visitors can marvel at the amazing world-class light project, created by the artist Motoko Ishii. In turn, during March and April, cherry trees start to blossom all over the country, and there are more than 1000 of them in the Park itself. Visiting the Park just to observe this beautiful phenomenon from a cable car gondola is well worth it.

Following the trail of Japanese amusement parks

There are more than 2000 amusement parks in the world. The idea originated in Scandinavia and that is also where the oldest amusement parks are located. Though the most famous amusement parks are those located in the United States, one has to visit Japan to find the most innovative parks, with the fastest rides available. It is here, in the Land of the Rising Sun, that visitors can feel like they are travelling around the world, simply by going to the most popular Japanese amusement parks. Apart from American-themed attractions like the Universal Studios or Disneyland, Dutch- or Spanish-themed parks are also available. Tobu World Square is yet another park that is well worth a visit. There, visitors can see the kingdom of the samurai, as well as the rest of the world, in just one place.
